Speak Your Light
calling the faith community to use its voice to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse
Why "Speak Your Light"?
In the United States, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. This abuse thrives in an environment of secrecy, denial, and ignorance. In short, it thrives in the darkness. We believe that all adults have a responsibility to become educated and to be willing to do their part, both in preventing abuse and in responding effectively to survivors – to bring light to the darkness.
For the faith community, we believe that we have an even greater responsibility to children. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Of those who claim to follow Him, He said, “You are the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14). Jesus brought light to make the darkness flee. He calls us to do the same - to use our voices to speak the light of truth because darkness has no place in our families, churches, schools, and communities.
The Christian Gospel is more than words. Since Jesus is our example, it is a Gospel of action. James 1:27 reminds us that our religious expression is "pure and faultless" before our God when we "look after orphans and widows in their distress." Orphans and widows represent the powerless and the abused - the ones in our society who have no voice and who live in darkness.
Just in case any of us have any doubt that the commands of Jesus include protecting children, He said, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father Who is in heaven” (Matt. 18:10).
Speak Your Light is a 501(c)3 ministry of Gene and Robin Greiner. We are passionate about calling the faith community to serve in Jesus' name by speaking the light of truth into the darkness and protecting the little ones.
